Standing on the Promises

Standing on the Promises

I made this for Patter’s Hymn and Scripture challenge found here. This week’s hymn is Standing on the Promises.  This is one of my favorite hymns because it reminds me of my Grandpa. When I was younger and we were visiting, he would take us to church with him.  I’m sure my mom and grandma attended as well, but I just remember going with him. The church is one room with a wood burning stove in the middle. (think Little House on the Prairie)  I remember singing this hymn and hearing the bass tones of other men in the church.  Just a memory of comfort and warmth.  Afterwards he would take us to a gas station/diner and let us order chocolate milk.  That was a big treat, possibly showing my age!  🙂 Now that I think about it, I would like to visit that old church again and take some pictures.  Lots of childhood memories there. Just an observation: I know this hymn to be on page 121 and I think another version on 122.  Whenever I attend a different church with hymnals, I always check.  Apparently the old hymnal we have at home is a different denomination, but I found it! Stampin’ Sisters in Christ Challenge #87

Stampin’ Sisters in Christ Challenge #87

I have decided to take the challenge at Stampin’ Sisters in Christ.  The challenge is based on Romans 8:28. “And we KNOW that in ALL things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his PURPOSE.” Romans 8:28 Marilynn, the challenge hostess, offers a beautiful devotional thought on the passage: To me there are 3 very interesting words in this passage. Know, All, and Purpose. KNOW. I love that it says that we know. Not that we wish, we hope, or we think. To me it is so comforting that I can know that God is working things for my good even when I don’t see how. I love the saying “I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds tomorrow.” ALL. The word All in it’s very nature is inclusive. It is the good AND the bad. The big things AND the little things. It is easy to see how God can use good things to work for good, but harder, if not impossible to see how he used bad things to work for good. Sometimes God gives us a glimpse of how he used something bad to work out for our good and then there are other times that I believe we will have to wait until Heaven to see the big picture. One of the times I was able to see His working things for my good started 16 years ago. I was 3 months into the pregnancy when Nikki died. I was devastated. My baby dying, to me, was a very bad thing. How could...

Faithful Friday-Give Thanks

It is that time of year.  Here in a America, we celebrate Thanksgiving.  Of course, we should always give thanks. Let us come before Him with Thanksgiving Psalm 95:2a Layout to share: A simple layout that focuses on the photos and journaling. (click for larger view) Journaling (right side): My prayer is for my family to know their need for a saviour, to come to know Jesus in a personal way. Yes, there is a God, but there is more… I “highlighted” certain words in the verse on the patterned paper by doodling boxes, hearts or underlining words. Scripture Card For this week’s card, I wanted to focus on my family and just how blessed I am.  However, I wanted a different scripture.  I chose 1 Corinthians 2:9  “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. ” Featured Products in the FY Store: All on sale plus FREE with any order-Digital Wordart-Harvest Blessings Crossed Paths Harvest Collection, Harvest Tags Flair Designs Autumn Splendor Be Blessed Scrapbooking-Thanksgiving, Thankful Be, Give Thanks Inspirational Memories-Give Thanks 2 Page Stickers-Harvest, Thanks, Thanksgiving, Thankfulness Digital Kit- Harvest Blessings Ministry Guide Harvest Blessings plus kit Daily Ideas: Don’t forget…I post to the blog (under latest news on the main site) daily. Faithful Friday-I Pray…

Note from Dawn: You know how you have intentions to do something and then things change? Well, my original plans for today’s post was different, but I had an amazing week and I just had to share with you. The journaling will explain… I Pray Journaling: We went to pick a friend up from the hospital and left the older girls in charge. I think with daylight savings time and it getting darker quicker, plus being shortly after Halloween, the younger girls were easily spooked!  To help ease Kori’s mind, she prayed and wrote us a letter. When we arrived home, we found it on our bed.  I am constantly amazed at the childlike faith of this 8 year old! I thank God for you Kori. Scripture: (on hearts) I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.  Mark 10:15 (click image for larger view) Letter reads: Mommy and Daddy, I missed you so much that I thought somthing happend then I prayed and told God if you were are (all) right and I jest felt that God told me that you were are right I love you About layout: This layout was inspired by the cover of the BoBunny Summer 2009 catalog.  (Kori and I like to cuddle and look through catalogs together discussing our favorite layouts.)  I cut the heart with the Gypsy and Cricut. I ran out of A’s for my title, so had to create one with a V upside down and the inside of an O. I used scraps from the...
